Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) was developed of by the French engineer Jacques D'Arsonval in 1881. However, at the time of this writing, the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii is home to the only functioning experimental OTEC manufacturing plant on the face of the planet. OTEC is a prospective alternative energy source that needs to be funded and explored much more than it presently is. The great hurdle to get over with OTEC implementation on a wide and practically useful level is value. It is difficult to get the costs down to a sensible level because of the processes presently utilized to drive OTEC. Ocean thermal power would be very clean burning and not add emissions into the air. However, as it presently would need to be established with our current technologies, OTEC plants would have the capacity for disrupting and perhaps damaging the local surroundings.
There are three variations of OTEC.
"Closed Cycle OTEC" uses a low-boiling point liquid such as, for example, propane to behave as an intermediate substance. The OTEC plant pumps the warm ocean water into the reaction compartment and boils the intermediate fluid. This results in the intermediate fluid's vapor pushing the turbine of the engine, which thus generates electricity. The mist is then cooled down by setting in cold sea water.
"Open Cycle OTEC" is not that different from closed cycling, however in the Open Cycle there is no intermediate fluid. The sea water by itself is the driver of the turbine engine in this OTEC structure. Warm sea water located on the surface of the ocean is turned into a low-pressure vapor under the constraint of a vacuum. The low-pressure vapor is released in a focused area and it has the strength to drive the turbine. To cool down the vapor and produce desalinated water for human consumption, the deeper ocean's cold waters are integrated to the vapor after it has developed sufficient electricity.
"Hybrid Cycle OTEC" is really just a principle for the time being. It seeks to express the way that we could make maximum usage of the thermal energy of the ocean's waters. There are actually two sub-theories to the idea of Hybrid Cycling. The first involves using a sealed cycling to generate electricity. This electricity is in turn used to create the vacuum atmosphere needed for open cycling. The second part is the integration of two open cyclings that twice the portion of desalinated potable water is developed with just one open cycle.
In addition to being used for producing electricity, a closed cycle OTEC plant can be utilized for treating chemicals. OTEC plants, both open cycling and close cycling variations, are also able to be used for pumping up cold deep sea water which can then be used for refrigerators and air conditioners. Furthermore, during the moderation time when the sea water is covering the plant, the enclosed can be used for mariculture and aquaculture projects such as fish farming. There is clearly quite a variety of products and services that we could gain from this alternative energy source.
In addition to alternative energy from the Sea, Zero Point Energy is an electric power that can be taken from the air and space all over us. There are present health related products that have been developed from zero point energy. Multiple Resources Of Alternative Power To Enhance Our Way Of Living
There are many different forms in which alternative energy is available. One of these is solar power; solar power is driven by photovoltaic cells.
Wind Power Being A Viable Solution To Meeting Renewable Energy Needs
Although it is much less expensive to initially get hooked into the local electric company's grid than it is to set up and hook into wind turbines, in the long run one saves funds by utilizing the wind for energy needs.
Government Grants For Alternative Energy - How The Situation Stands
In his State of the Union Address for 2007, United States President George W. Bush called for a 22% increase in federal grants for research and development of alternative energy.
Alternative Energy Education Method
The best method of educating young people about alternative energy production that this writer has ever witnessed is the use of the PicoTurbine Company's kits, books, and projects.
Discover Some Of The Main Benefits Of Vertical Axis Windmills Over Horizontal Forms
Vertical windmills aren't such a recent concept. In fact, despite that we are accustomed to seeing horizontal axis windmills, the first windmills invented were the vertical ones. The first functional types were invented in the 9th century, but their design has changed very much over the years in order to get a higher efficiency from them.
Give A New Look To Your Lawn And Garden Utilizing Decorative Windmills
If you're willing to give a new look to your country house, then a decorative windmill might be exactly what you are looking for. They come in all the shapes and colors that you can think of, and they are the perfect accessory for your garden or yard.
Magnet Generators And Designs Which Prove The Principle.
There are many different kinds of free energy devices including the magnet generator that have been developed over the years and each one proves that the concept works. Commercial development and manufacture of such machines however, appears to have been almost non-existent.
