A Perth-based motor trimming business has released a very own range of protective machine covers to the Queensland mining industry which are conserving a number of the state's biggest companies big bucks in substitution parts and preventative maintenance costs.
Modern motor trimmers has spent over 5 years investigating and developing a range of ram covers for truck and excavators. The 'ripstop' PVC sleeves prevent wear and tear, potentially tripling the life anticipation of ram seals and chroming, and producing important expense savings.
The covers, which retail for under $1,000, have also been produced for coal shoots, rock crushers and also dust extractors, and are proving popular with procurement professionals and mine planners who have rapidly purchased on the savings and conveniences they offer.
MMT managing director Garry Spouge said the covers give resistance towards rocks, dirt and salt pitting the machinery's rods, which can cause to the tearing of ram seals. They have been developed to let easy self-installation by mechanics.
"Setting up new ram seals can take few mechanics as much as half a day, and have apparent security implications, primarily where cranes or cherry pickers are needed," he said.
"It's definitely a costly exercise with regards to manpower and with machinery being down or out of use for a few hours.
"That is the reason why we've created our ram covers to be instantly set up, they leak on and are secured either side by a patented clamp; the whole process needs about 45 minutes and can improve the life of the rod and seals by a couple of times.
"Given that an excavator ram may cost you in excessive amount of $50,000, the rate savings are very impressive, which is why the demand for our covers is quickly increasing."
One of the first companies to fit the protective covers to its complete truck fleet was Western-Australia based FMG, at its mine in far north WA.
WA anf Rio Tinto in Queensland has simply placed a mass order for the sleeves, which MMT is producing in a range of safety colors, which includes yellow and orange.
"We're discovering that the more progressive businesses are seeing the huge charge features, and our orders have increased by 20 per cent due to the fact first release into the Queensland industry only 6 months ago," Mr Spouge added.
"We're as well doing work with a number of the larger miners to custom model protective sleeves for other plant and machinery, and this bespoke, tailor-made service is a place which we are going to be looking to increase into in the future."
The investigation and creation work performed by MMT on the protective ram covers is an addition to the company's center market, which is centered on the supply, installing and servicing of premium suspension seats and seating products to the Australian mining, design, engineering, building and transport sectors.
The business is Western Australia's only official provider and repairer for German company ISRI, which is typically well known as the business of the world's most advanced driver and passenger seating products.
